Introducing the story of Dutti Djarra (Pronounced, DooDi JaRah) The Little Singing Black Bird.
In 2015 I was blessed by the elders in Yarrabah, a community I hold very close to my heart with a Language Name Ceremony on the beach front of Yarrabah Bay.
I have held this name with me my whole life. I have held her in arms reach at all times.
Dutti Djarra or Dutti Djutti, they called me. The little singing black bird. The little bird who brings sweet songs to you wherever you go and leaves you with gifts or treasures however they come.
I found my way through Dutti Djarra. She has brought me many gifts and brought me many songs throughout the years. Feathers falling into my path as I place my feet on the earth. Allowing me to bring joy to others through the power of music.
No matter where I walk, no matter where I am, in the concrete jungles, or in the rainforest I stumble across beauty. Many will walk past a feather left by Dutti Djarra, I found myself collecting all her treasures she left for me to bring life back into them for you to see the beauty it once was. A bird flying high in the sky, high above the skyscrapers, soaring along the sugar cane paddocks, swooping through trees barely missing the lawyer cane, sitting on a branch with their mate for life basking in the golden hour waiting for the sun to end their day.
Once a season ends or the grooming for the day finishes up it is nothing but a a piece of the earth, and we no longer see the life it once had. Dutti Djarra tells the story that we will bring beauty and life back by creating art.
She is here now, and I will finally tell my story of Dutti Djarra.
